Verses 95-100Verses 83-94

Abraham was a truthful follower of Noah, who worshipped his only one God with a sincere heart, pure of all kinds of partners and associates. That is to say; he went to his God with a heart empty of everything but the love for his Lord Creator.

The main story of Abraham is written in S 21:51ِ73. Here is an episode of his narrative through which Qurän illustrates his plot against idols, and his readiness to sacrifice his own beloved son for the sake of God while he was under a trial.

The people of Abraham worshipped several kinds of false gods and fetishes like, idols, celestial bodies, and cupids of cupidity. Priests and the learned ones among them guarded and protected these ideas, due to their inordinate desire for rank, wealth, and other objects of greed. Abraham was grieved that his people and even his father should be associated with such falsehood, and he wanted to do something to put them aright in order to realize that their true God and real Creator is only One, and above all that they associate with Him. He decided to teach them a lesson practically.

He therefore waited for a general festival to come, in which almost all the people were on a picnic out of the town, and there was no one around the temple and idols. Abraham stole away in the temple, and in a cold blood, broke all the smaller idols into pieces, and then he put his axe upon the shoulder of their largest; and indifferently went away!

The idolaters returned and were struck with astonishment when saw their idols smashed! Who has dared to commit such a great sin!!?

Soon after the news exploded and spread throughout the town.

People rushed to the temple; and many came to Abraham in haste, because they suspected him.
