Verses 12-14Verses 10-11

These two verses may be a warning, or admonition, to those who forget the favours of God, and ignore His bounties. Such persons when they sit upon a throne of power, may even deny to have an All-mighty Lord, Who looks after them from overhead!

David was favoured with many physical and spiritual favours of God by which he could excel many of God's believing servants.

He could communicate with mountains and birds. The hard steel became soft and pliable in his hand, so much so that he could fabricate defensive chain mails, and even make the links well-proportioned!

The birds and mountains repeated with him his prayers and Psalms, and openly celebrated the praise of God with him.

As a matter of fact, whatever exists in the universe sings the praise of God, either separately or simultaneously. Here the mountains and birds are ordered to celebrate the praise of God, and sing His glory in unison with David:-

``And verily We bestowed on David a Grace of us, saying; O, Mountains and birds, repeat with him his prayer, and We softened iron for him.''

Some commentators have written that through inspiration Allah said to David ironically:- ``What a good servant of mine thou art!? You sustain yourself, and eat out of the PUBLIC PURSE!?''

David wept and prayed for a period of forty days, that God might teach him a lawful way for providing sustenance. Then the knowledge of manufacturing chain mails came to him and he worked in that field for obtaining sustenance.

Therefore, the second verse (NOِ11) may imply that David was the first man to make a chain mail which is a flexible fabric of interlinked metal rings, used as a defensive armour.

Contrary to the offensive weapons, a chain mail is a defensive armour, and therefore manufacture of them is a righteous deed. In other word; all fightings unless in defence of truth, is mere violence.

William Shakespeare in his HENRY 4 has:-

      The arms are fair,

When the intent of bearing them is just.
