Verses 1-2Verses 72-73

The last two verses of this chapter (CONFEDERATES) will complete the discussion about; faithِrighteous deedsِ striveِ sacrificeِ chastityِcharacterِand morality, by admitting the ability of Man to carry the Message of God. When Man becomes ignorant of his valuable faculties and worth, in the earth, by which he has become the calif, and the viceroy of God, down here, it is a sore unjustice and a great loss to himself. Man carries the great Divine offer:-

``We offered the truth to the heavens and earth, and to the mountains, but they refused to carry it, and were afraid of it, but Man took it over, that he was oppressor, ignorant.''

Their refusal was not due to pride or disobedience, as Satan refused to prostrate himself before Adam, for the sake of God. It was rather for fear of failure in fulfilling their obligations related to the trust.

Man took it over, but did not evaluate the worth of such that great a honour and responsibility. The poor fellow took it easy, and failed to carry the precious load. As to what the ``TRUST'' offered by God could have been, the expounders of Qurän have proposed various ideas, all of which are very near to one another in denotation or connotation. These suggestions are as follows:-

1ِDivine Guardianship. 2ِFree Will. 3ِWisdom. 4ِParts of the body. 5ِCovenants and ordinary promises. 6ِRecognition and Knowing God. 7ِPerforming His Commandment. 8ِAnd some have reached the conclusion that, the Holy Qurän is the main object of the trust of God, which gradually revealed to Mankind through successive prophets, and then at once it was given to us through Mohammad, the Last and the Seal of prophets.

To give some more details about the said ``TRUST'' we may say:-

Literally trust is that which is committed or entrusted to one as a duty, task, or charge, on which he has power of disposition and must use it as directed or expected; and meanwhile he has the power of using it otherwise.

Allah offered the trust to some others of His creatures that were created before man, but they refused to carry it for fear of betrayal. Man who is supposed to be the epitome of the great exterior universe accepted the heavy load that the heavens, earth, and mountains, dared not to carry; and betrayed the trust.

At first Allah Who had breathed something of His own Spirit into Man, honoured him in the position of a teacher for His angels, but Man in his corruption fell down even lower that the beasts! Even after his fall, Man did have the faculty to undertake to some extent, the godly attributes of; Love, Knowledge, Free Will, Forbearance, and Mercy. To this effect a series of Guidance through the prophets and Divine Books were sent to him in order to raise him up again, and to bring him nearer to God, that he may be apt to receive God's Mercy and Grace. But not many of them were lucky enough to make use of the chances and opportunities.

After the acceptance of the trust, the children of Adam were divided into three groups, namely; the hypocrites, the polytheists, and the believers; so that the first two groups could be punished according to God's universal justice, and believers who are God's trustees, to live for ever, in the shade of God's Grace and Mercy; which is called their reward:-

``That Allah may punish the hypocrites and polytheists, men and women; and that, Allah may turn in mercy to the believing men and believeing women.''

Here, the hypocrites are named first, because they pretend to be trustworthy, while they are treacherous. The qualities; Forgiver and Compassionate attributed here to Allah, are the contrary to Oppressor and Ignorant that are attributed to Man.
