Verses 65-66Verse 64

VERSE NO. 64

In this verse one of the unjust and sinful words of the Jews, that according to the previous verse, the Rabbis and Doctors of the Law, had to stop them saying it, is mentioned here that:-

``The Jews said the hand of Allah is tied up and chained, and he can grant no more than what has been destined!'' The historical evidences show that; the ancient Jews have had a great kingdom and a glorious life, particularly in the life time of David and Solomon. It continued with many ups and downs, until the advent of Islam and Mohammad S.A., when they lost all their splendours and brilliancy, particularly when their important tribes like, Baninazir, Banighoraiza, and the inhabitants of Khaibar waged war against the prophet of Islam.

It was in their defeat when some of their literates put forth the Doctorine of Destiny and the faith; saying the hand of God is tied and fettered and God will not do anything out of the bounds of fate and destiny. They said that the course of events are predetermind by Allah and are resistless, and we cannot change our fate, and whatever has been written in our forehead at the beginning of creation must come to pass, and will come.

Islam has rejected and refuted their idea, and in a style mingled with anger, wrath, and admonition, says:-

May their own hands be chained and tied. Cursed are they for what they utter of blasphemy! By no means! God's hands are outspread and outstretched, and He bestows whatever to whoever He likes.''

HAND; by denotation means the end part of the humman arm; but it has several connotations, and particularly in Arabic language it has various shades of meaning such as:- Power - Skill - Help - Direction - Control - Personal - Possession and etc. So the verse in its other phases of meaning may imply that; not only the people of the Book, rather every Muslims or non-Muslim is held in pledge of his own deeds, and life is what we make it with our own hands.

The verse then points at their endeavours to kindle the fire of wars against Muslims, and that Allah extinguished their kindled fire in favour of His party, while their evil deeds and bad intentions reflected back upon their own life, so that enmity and hatred was cast upon them and it continues with them until the Day of Doom. This is because, through their continuous mischief, they sow the seed of corruption and evil in the earth- something that God abhors, and will turn its bad consequences upon them.
